Celebration of Gandiji and Lalbahadur Shastriji JayanthiOn 2nd October 2022 Mahathma Gandiji, Lalbahadur Shastriji Jayanthi and Senior Citizens day has been celebrated at Allamaprabhu Auditorium, JSS INsitutions, Suttur. Dr. K. Kalachennegowda, Former Principal, Maharaja College, Mysuru addressed the gathering about the biography of Mahathma Gandhiji and Lalbahadur Shastriji. More than 120 staff members of JSS Insitutions and ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra staff were participated in the programme. |

Celebration of Mahila Kisan Divas at ICAR JSS KVK Suttur, MysuruICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrated Mahila Kisan Diwas on 15-10-2022. During the program, Smt. Mahalakshmi Prabhakar, B C Halli, Bannur Hobli, T Narasipura Taluk, a progressive dairy farmer who supplies around 180 litres of milk to Milk Cooperative society was felicitated. During the program a session on financial literacy was organized for creating awareness on different schemes and insurance for women farmers. Around 40 women farmers and 30 male farmers participated in the program. |
Jalshakhti Abiyan at ICAR JSS KVK Suttur, MysuruOn 11th October 2022 ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra observed Jal Shakthi Abiyan programme. During the programme the mission and vision of “Jal Shakti Abiyan - Cath the rain wherever it falls when it falls” was conveyed to the farmers. The importance of water, its conservation methods and best utilization channels was addressed to the gathering. Later, farmers visited the KVK Farm pond unit where rain water harvesting and fish farming activity is taken up. More than 35 women farmers of Sri Dharmasthala Rural Development Foundation SHG have participated in the training. |
Audit Inspection from ICAR OfficailsAn Auidt officer from ICAR, New Delhi Sri. Kunal Kaliya, accounts officer Sri. Shaik Rukman and Dr. B. Mallikarjuna Hanji, Chief Technical Officer from ICAR ATARI, Bengaluru visited to ICAR JSSKVK, Suttur, Mysuru for audit inspection. Some important documents like asset register, revolving fund management, grants released by ICAR and its utilization records, cash books, salary payment records, bank accounts, scientific advisory committee meeting, monthly and annual reports of KVK, sale of old vehicles and maintenance of new vehicles etc. inspected. The officials of ICAR were expressed their satisfaction about the ICAR JSS KVK, Mysuru for the maintenance of the records. |
Demonstration on srapying of Nano Urea through dronsICAR JSS KVK, Suttur, Mysuru has organized a demonstration on “Use of Drones in Agriculture”. Mr. Munish, the Chief Executive Officer of the Drone Company informed in detail about the use of drone of Multiplex Company by the farmers of the villages around KVK who participated in this program. Farmers were sensitized about the use of drones by conducting a demonstration of nano-urea spraying using drones in the paddy demonstration field of KVK. |
World Food Day and PM Kisan Samman Sammelan live telecast programmeICAR JSS KVK Suttur, Mysuru celebrated World Food Day and live telecasted the PM Kisan Samman Sammelana programme on 17th October 2022. Mrs. Jamuna Urs., Home Scientist (Rtd.), ICAR JSS KVK Suttur spoke about the theme of the World Food Day that is ‘Leave no one behind’. So women and children should consume nutritious food to get better health. Mrs.Rajamma Madappa, President, Gram Panchayath, Biligere was the chief guest of the programme. Mrs.Divya H.V., Senior Scientist and Head (I/c) translated the PM speech about PM Kisan Samman Sammelan and conveyed to the gatherings in local language Kannada. Mrs. Netravati Yattinamani, Scientist (Home Science) gave introductory remark about the programme. Millets cooking competition was organised on the occasion of International year of millets, 12 women were participated; prizes were distributed to the winners. More than 150 members were participated in the programme. |
Method demonstration on Tamarind value additionOn 21st October 2022, method demonstration was conducted on Tamarind value added products to SHG women at Hulyalu, Hunsur taluk. Mrs. Netravati Yattinamani, Scientist (Home Science), ICAR JSS KVK Suttur demonstrated the tamarind value added products mainly Tamarind lollypop, Tamarind kuttunde and Tamarind candy. Critical inputs, packing and labels were provided to the SHG women. |
Jalshakthia Abhiyana awareness program to SHG groupsOn 20th October 2022, Jalashakthi Abhiyana awareness program to SHG groups of SKDRDP Nanjangud was organized at ICAR JSS KVK campus. SKDRDP participants visited soil and water conservation structure like trench cum bunds and percolation ponds in instructional farm of KVK. The visit was facilitated and coordinated by KVK agronomy scientist Shri. Shamaraj and also explained watershed concept, soil and water conservation methods like opening of trench cum bunds, percolation ponds and contour cultivation. |
Online Training on Kitchen GardenICAR JSSKVK, Mysuru conducted online training programme on Terrace garden during 8th November 2022. Mrs. Netravati Yattinamani, Scientist (Home Science) explained about importance of vegetables and fruits in improving health, vegetables cultivation, details of vegetables which can be grown in Terrace garden and also explained about materials required for the establishment of Terrace garden. She also emphasis on importance of medicinal plants and cultivation in the Terrace garden. Mrs. Divya H V SSH (I/c) explained about compost making, different types of composting and organic (natural) methods to control pest and diseases in the Terrace garden. More than 30 participants were joined the online training. |
Kisan Swaraj SammelanIn 3-days mela over 150 seed conservationists from across the country are showcasing India’s rich agricultural diversity at the Fifth All-India Kisan Swaraj Sammelan of the Alliance for Sustainable and Holistic Agriculture (ASHA) at the Convocation Hall of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) in Muktagangothri campus along Hunsur Road, Mysuru It is for the first time such a meet is being held in Mysuru and the earlier Sammelans were held at Bhopal, Chandigarh, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Over 300 to 400 varieties of paddy including the famed “Mysuru Mallige” paddy variety are on display. The lion’s share of paddy collection is from Tamil Nadu where conservationists are showcasing over 30 rare varieties. These are organically grown paddy and are less-prone to diseases. Farmers and seed savers from 17 States are participated in the Sammelan and the event was a platform for sharing ideas and also a place to exchange rare varieties of seeds so that their varieties can be multiplied and preserved. Sahaja Samrudha, Janapada Seva Trust, ICAR-JSS KVK (Suttur), Soil, Allama Research and Cultural Foundation, Desi Seed Producer Company Ltd. and Belavala Foundation are among the Sammelan organisers. Conservationists usually buy one or two kg seeds at such exhibitions and cultivate them in their land for the seeds to multiply. Later, they are stored and disbursed among fellow seed savers. Apart from paddy, huge varieties of pulses, millets, fruits like banana, custard apple and soursop are on display.1900 registered farmers all over the country participated in the event. 19 parallel sessions have organized. Banana fest, seed fest are the main attraction of the samelan. |
In-service training programmeA two-day training program on 'Importance of Agriculture in School Education' was conducted on 24-25 November 2022 for selected teachers of 26 different schools of Mysore district on the opportunity and priority of school teachers in agriculture with the objective of making the subject of agriculture an interesting and skill-based one at JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra. Mr. Shivamallu, Headmaster, JSS School, Suttur who inaugurated the training, told the teachers to teach about agriculture to attract the children towards agriculture and said that since farmers' children are interested in agriculture, they can make progress in agriculture by using modern agricultural technology. Ms. Divya, Senior Scientist and Head (I/c) and in-charge of training, opined that, 73% of children in our country are from rural areas. Despite giving free clothes, shoes, and free books, 53 percent of girls drop out of school before the age of 9. Education system to be made attractive by including agriculture subject in syllabus and make them practical in agriculture during the leisure hours. She said that children can be attracted to school by teaching on horticulture, dairy farming, Silk rearing etc., Dr. Pallavi H.M. Assistant Professor, Horticulture College, Mysuru said that some of the agriculture universities have provided agriculture education in the form of Diploma after PUC. Rural youth may join these type of courses and do their agriculture in their own lands scientifically. Mrs. Netravati Yettinamani, Home Scientist of KVK, explained in detail about the construction and maintenance of kitchen drains, organic terrace garden in the school premises. KVK's horticulturist Dr. Vinay spoke about the control of diseases and pests in natural methods in kitchen gardens and also explained the method of grafts through a demonstration. Animal husbandry scientist of KVK Dr. Rakshit Raj gave information about earthworm manure, cow shed, fodder crop, azola demonstrationunits. Kumari Shilpa, gave information about Agriclinic and seed production units. 26 teachers from different schools of Mysore district participated with interest in the training. In order to encourage the teachers, various plants were distributed by KVK to plant in their schools, and they were told to make kitchen garden and make the children aware about agriculture lessons. |
Skill training programme for SHG membersSkill oriented programme has been organized for the SriSrikeshtra Darmastala Rural Development Project SHG members on 27.11.2022. During the programme grafting, honey production skill has been taught through demonstration. Later trainees visited to demo units of the KVK. More than 50 farmers and farmwomen were participated in the programme. |
