Workshop on Tomato

Department of Horticulture Nanjanagud with the collaboration of ICAR JSS KVK Sutturu Organized Workshop on new technologies in Tomato production in Naviluru village Nanjangud Taluk. Dr Vinay G M scientist horticulture delivered lecture on Soil health management in Tomato plots, Varietal selection, Integrated Nutrient Management, Integrated pest and disease management, importance of vegetable special in increase the yield and quality of Tomato, use of sticky traps etc. In this workshop Assistant Horticulture Officers, SADH and 45 farmers participated and benefitted.


Diagnostic field visit to young coconut orchard

Department of Horticulture Nanjanagud with the collaboration of ICAR JSS KVK Sutturu organized Field day on Integrated nutrient management in Chilli in Naviluru village Nanjangud Taluk. Dr Vinay G M scientist Horticulture delivered lecture on Soil health management along with nutrient management, Fertigation technologies and use of vegetable special in increasing the yield of Chilli. In this field day Assistant Horticulture Officers, SADH and 25 farmers participated and benefitted.


Skill Development Programme - Garderner

ICAR JSS Krishi Vignyan Kendra Sutturu with the collaboration of Agriculture Skill Council of India started 25 days training programme on Gardner from 22nd February to 18th March. The training programme was inaugurated by sowing the vegetables seeds in portrays. Mr. Chetan ADH, Department of Horticulture Mysuru, Shivashankarappa, DHO, MVP, Mysuru, Shivaswamy Principle DEd College Sutturu, Senior Scientist and Head (I/C) Divya H V, Dr Vinay G M, Shamaraj, Rajanna and KVK staffs along with participants were present in the inaugural function. In this programme trainees getting information regarding Garden planning and establishment, nursery planning and establishment and other skills related to Horticulture.


30th SAC meeting

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra has organized 30th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting at ICAR JSS KVK Suttur on 16th February 2023. The meeting was presided by JSS Mahavidyapeetha Mysuru Executive Secretary Dr. C G Betsurmath. The chief guest of SAC committee Dr. B Hemlanaik, Director of Extension, UAHS Shivammoga and JSS KVK nodal officer, Chief technical officer of ATARI Bengaluru Dr. Mallikarjun Hanji and other SAC members from department official of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries, sericulture, CADA, UAS Bengaluru, NABARD and progressive farmers have actively participated to discuss about current problems of agriculture in the district. The meeting was inaugurated by release of extension literatures like leaf lets on cow based farming, natural farming, black gram seed production and desi cow breeds. The Senior Scientist and Head of KVK briefed about KVK activities, progress and issues. The committee has given suggestion and advice for improving farming and scope of secondary agriculture in the district.


Exposure visit

On the account of National Horticulture Fair 2023 which was organized by ICAR-IIHR, Hesarghatta, Bengaluru about 103 farmers belonging to Tribal communities of Sollepura Hadi, Kebbepura and Kenchanahalli of Heggadadevanakote Taluk were mobilized to the fair by ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur, Mysuru. Most of them were women farmers belonging to Tribal communities such as Jenukuruba and Koraga. The women farmers were fascinated by the various fruit plantation crops, leafy vegetables and IIHR vegetable varieties grown in field. Many of the farmers took information on Medicinal plants and its uses. Value addition of millets, coconut and other crops through formation of SHG’s & FPO’s enlightened farmers. New Irrigation systems specifically automated drip systems attracted farmers. Chia crop which is being cultivated in their zones during rabi season as a substitute crop to other traditional crops and so as to minimize the wild animal and human conflict shared broader perspectives.


Coconut Field Day at Ayarahalli

ICAR JSS KVK Sutturu with the collaboration of Coconut Development Board Bengaluru organized Coconut field day in progressive farmer Prabhamani coconut field at Ayarahalli village of Mysuru Taluk on 4th March. In that programme Joint Director of Horticulture Mysuru Dr Nagaraju give details regarding department’s subsidies and new technologies in Coconut to the farmers. Progressive farmer Madappa shared his experience of intercropping and mixed cropping in coconut. Dr Vinay G M Scientist Horticulture Given details of varieties of Coconut, Mother plant selection and Nursery management in coconut. Rajanna J G Programme Assistant soil science given information regarding soil health management and nutrient management in Coconut. Dr Prasad Y P delivered lecture on Pest and disease symptoms, identification methods and integrated management strategies to control them in Coconut. President of the programme Divya H V Senior Scientist and Head (I/C) ICAR JSS KVK gave information on KVK activities and programs. Finally conducted method demonstration on integrated nutrient management, Nursery Management and Isaria fumaroseae spraying by using power sprayer for control of spiraling rogous white fly in coconut. Total of 45 farmers participated and benefitted.


Field day in Coconut at Haratale

ICAR JSS KVK Sutturu with the collaboration of Coconut Development Board Bengaluru organized Coconut field day in progressive farmer Raju coconut field at Harathale village of Nanjanagudu Taluk on 14th March. In the programme Harathale grama panchayath president and members were present, Progressive farmer Raju shared his experience of intercropping and mixed cropping in coconut. Rajanna J G Programme Assistant soil science given information regarding soil health management and nutrient management in Coconut. Finally conducted method demonstration on integrated nutrient management, Total of 50 farmers participated and benefitted.


DDG, ICAR New Delhi Vist to KVK

Dr. Udham Singh Goutam, Deputy Director General, Division of Agricultural Extension, Dr. Rajashree Roy Burman, Assistant Director General (AE), Mr. Devendra Rustagi, Vice president - Agriculture, Common Service Center, e-governance service India Limited Ministry of Electronics and IT, GOI, New Delhi and Dr. V. Venkatasubramanian, Director, ICAR-ATARI Bengaluru. Dr Mallikarjun B Hanji Chief technical officer ICAR-ATARI Bengaluru and Nodal officer of ICAR JSS KVK Sutturu released the Gardner training manual on 13th March at ICAR JSS KVK Sutturu Mysuru and distributed to ASCI Gardner trainees.


Paddy Drum Seeder Training Programme

ICAR JSS KVK Suttur in collaboration with SKDRDP T Narasipura organized capacity development program on paddy tray nursery and machine transplanting in paddy for rural youths on 6th March 2023 at krishnapura village T Narasipura taluk Mysuru district. KVK Agronomist Shri Shamaraj explained about increased cost of production in paddy and scarcity of paddy transplanting labours forcing farmers to look alternate methods like direct sown rice and machine transplanting in paddy and also briefed about paddy tray nursery preparation and integrated crop management in paddy. KVK Agronomist Shri Shamaraj with SKDRDP officer Shri Kumar conducted method demonstration on paddy tray nursery preparation. Nearly 32 farmers participated in the program.


Seed Production Programme

ICAR JSS KVK Suttur in collaboration with National Seed Corporation Mysuru organized capacity development program to NSC seed production farmers at KVK campus Suttur. NSC officers explained about functioning of National Seed Corporation and seed production in crops and varieties. KVK Agronomist Shri Shamaraj explained about methods of paddy cultivation, water and nutrient management, weed and pest management in paddy and also briefed about improved agronomic practices in blackgram. KVK Senior Scientist and Head (I/c) Ms. H V Divya briefed about seed production in paddy and blackgram.


Wokshop on Apiculture

One day workshop cum training on apiculture was conducted at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra Suttur on 09.03.2023. Mr. Ravi from Mandya participated as a resource person, explained about importance of honey bees in agriculture ecosystem, role of honey bees in food production, communication between the bees (bee dance), role of worker bee, queen and male bees and he demonstrated the procedure of maintaining the honey bee colonies, extraction of honey from comb. IFS workshop involving 10 model IFS farmers selected from all 7 taluks of the district participated in the workshop briefed their management of farm and expressed their opinion about need to provide technical support from KVK in some area’s like. vermicomposting, azolla production, use of bio pesticides and bio agent for management of pest and diseases. KVK agronomist Shri Shamaraj explained about adaption of different complimentary and supplementary enterprises to support ecosystem in each IFS model and KVK has provided critical inputs like vermibed, azolla bed, neem cake, waste decomposer, green manure seeds like sunhemp, bioagent trichoderma pseudomonas, grafted mango, Sapota seedlings, curryleaf, drumstick etc to IFS farmers in the workshop and made arrangement for visit to demo unit in the KVK campus.


Online Millet Programme

ICAR JSS KVK Mysuru organized virtual mode of inaugural function of global millet conference at KVK training hall involving millet growing farmers and entrepreneurs in the district. Our Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the programme. Different countries presidents participated in the conference and expressed their views about millets production, value addition and marketing. In KVK training hall 10 entrepreneur of the district displayed about 39 milletproducts in the programme through online. 9 millet growers participated in the programme. Each millet entrepreneur interacted and shared their experiencewith each other after the online program.


Participation in Krishimela

ICAR JSS KVK Suttur participated in the Agriculture and Horticulture mela organized by Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agriculture and Horticulture Sciences Shivamogga from 17.03.2023 to 20.03.2023 at Shivamogga. We have exhibited the traditional and GI crops from Mysore which include Nanjangud Rasabale, Mysore Mallige, Heerangere badane and Mysore Veelyedele. In the stall more importance was given to the millets with respect to millets importance, its cultivation and value addition and the same information was shared with the farmers. The KVK scientists interacted with the gathered farmers and university dignitaries about the traditional crops of Mysore, seed production in paddy, legumes etc., production of desi vibhuthi, importance of micronutrients in the crop cultivation by showcasing the banana special, vegetable special and mango special and also visited to demo units of KVK Davanagere and learned about KVK as resource institute for management of 17 FPO in 3 district.


ASCI Gardner training programme

ICAR JSS Krishi Vignyan Kendra Sutturu with the collaboration of Agriculture Skill Council of India completed 25 days training programme on Gardner on 18th March. In this training programme participants got information regarding ornamental plants identification, gardening layout, gardening management, potting, repotting, bonsai making skills, terrace garden, vertical gardening, hydroponics, aeroponics, kitchen gardening, nursery project development, vegetable seedling productions, vegetative propagation in fruits, pest and disease identification and management in gardens, basic computer, basic English, communication skills, financial literacy, yoga and HRD by resource persons and also organized study tour to ICAR CHES Chettahalli nurseries and mother blocks, gardens near Kushalnagara, the total of 210 hours course was completed along with that, to encourage participants distributed basic implements of gardening and gardener manuals, package of participants and other reading manuals to the participants in the programme.


Swacchatha Action Plan (SAP)

ICAR JSS KVK Mysuru organized capacity development program to school teachers and farmers of DFI cluster villages on conversion of farm waste into compost. DFI cluster villages School teachers as representative of their school participated in capacity development program and learned about how to keep school surrounding free from weeds and other wastes and also composting and Vermicomposting by conversion of farm/school surrounding waste into compost/Vermicompost by using vermi bed bags. Farmers from DFI villages also participated in the capacity development program and visited to composting and Vermicomposting units in the KVK campus. JSS KVK Mysuru has given support for swachatha of farm and school by providing vermibeds and waste decomposer to farmers and schools to keep their farm and surrounding clean and weed free.


Tailoring Programme

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sutturu in collaboration with JSS Janashikshana samsthe started three and half months (80hours) 2 training programme on tailoring and one on embroidery work for homemakers for rural women. 60 farm women’s 20 per batch are taking benefit of the programme. The programme was inaugurated by Smt. H.V.Divya, Senior Scientist and Head (I/C), ICAR JSS KVK, Sutturu and Smt. Nijaguna teacher, JSS Janashikshana samsthe, Mysuru. After inauguration Smt. H.V.Divya told that, Home maker at village can take benefit of the programme and women can start their work within their premises. In this way women can be empowered with skill and economically independent, her self confidence will improve. Teacher Smt. Nijaguna explained the rules and regulations about the programme. Women can do team work or can join to garment. There is a large scope for these training programmes. 60 women participated in the programme
