Workshop on GI Crops

7 January 2026

A workshop on scientific cultivation practices, marketing opportunities, and export prospects for traditional crops with a geographical background was held on 07 January 2026 at ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The event was organised in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Bengaluru. Dr. B.N. Gnanesh, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR JSSKVK, informed that KVK will support Mysuru district farmers in cultivating traditional crops. Efforts are underway to export overseas Nanjangud Rasabale and Mysuru Mallige crops in partnership with APEDA, Bengaluru. Shri U. Dharmarao, Regional Assistant Managing Director; Mrs. Madhumathi Andrews, Manager at APEDA, Bengaluru; and Sri C. Chandru, Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture, Nanjangud were in the progarmme.

His Holiness flags of GI crops export

On 15 January 2025 His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji flag-off the event on export of GI-tagged Nanjangud Rasabale and Mysore beetle leaves at ICAR JSS KVK, Suttur. The programme was organized in collaboration with APEDA, Bengaluru and Department of Horticulture, Mysuru and ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra. His Holiness expressed happiness about exporting the Nanjangud Rasabale and Mysore beetle leaves to the Maldives and hoped it would reach other countries soon. Noting global demand for organic products, His Holiness stressed the farmers to pursue organic farming in a large scale. Dr. B.N. Gnanesh, Senior Scientist and Head, along with Sri Manjunath Angadi, Joint Director of the Department of Horticulture, Mysuru, staff members, and farmers, attended the rally. The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority in Bengaluru facilitated a nationwide live telecast of the Green Flag event.

Technology Week (Krishimela 2025)

15-20 January 2026

ICAR JSS Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Suttur organized Technology Week (Krishimela 2025) during January 25 to 31, 2025. The technology week was inaugurated by Shri N. Chaluvanarayana, Minister for Agriculture, Govt. of Karnataka in the divine presence His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivratri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji, other Pontiffs and other dignitaries.

Technology Week was held in Suttur from 15-20 January 2026, featuring demonstrations of both traditional and modern agricultural practices. Farmers were introduced to key technologies and over 250 crop varieties, including commercial cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fodder crops, legumes, exotic vegetables, flower and horticulture crops. Other topics presented included sericulture, drip and sprinkler irrigation, and natural farming techniques.

Mysore's geographical crops, including Nanjangud Rasabale, Mysore betel leaves, and Eeernagere variety Brinjal, were showcased. Facility has been made about crop details (variety, duration, etc.) through QR code.

One Acre IFS Model
The principle of self-sufficiency within the Integrated Farming System was exemplified through the development of a cost-effective and sustainable farming model designed to support the sustainable livelihood of small and marginal farmers.

DESI Breeds Expo
The Technology Week featured an exhibition of indigenous cattle breeds (such as Punganur, Kankrej, Saiwal), Jafrabadi buffaloes, Bandur sheep, goats, poultry, rabbits, and several fish varieties for farmers.

Agricultural Exhibition
Over 130 stalls took part in the exhibition, featuring contributions from agricultural and horticultural universities, research institutes, various development departments, line departments, NGOs, self-help groups, as well as manufacturers and distributors of agricultural equipment. These participants provided essential information to attendees.

Seminar
A seminar on 'Women in Agriculture: Sustainable Development and Food Security' featured presentations from Dr. M.K. Harinikumar (UAS, Mandya), progressive farmers Asha Seshadri (Kannangi) and Rajeshwari V. (Haveri), as well as agri-entrepreneurs Patil and Yogish Appajayya (Bengaluru).B.N. Gnanesh, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR JSSKVK, Suttur edited books on Crop Production, Crop Improvement and Crop Protection were released. Top farmers and farmwomen from Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts, recognized for high yields in paddy, banana, sugarcane, tomato, maize, pole beans, and sericulture, were honored in collaboration with the Sundaramma Duggahatti Veerabhadrappa Foundation and Mahadevappa Seva Trust. A Start-Up workshop for rural youth, organised with SJCE STEP, Mysuru at Agri Expo, featured expert-led skill development training and interactive sessions.

Compitition on Rangoli, Sobane and ragi flour grinding
Competitions in rangoli, Sobane songs, and ragi flour making (using biso stone) were held for women farmers.

Drone Demonstration

Agriculture drone has been demonstrated for the rural folk and provide necessary information of nano fertilizers and usage of pesticides through drone.
